Payments: Billing ZIP Code Verification
We've introduced Address Verification System (AVS) to add an extra layer of security to online and phone-based credit card payments.
AVS checks whether the billing ZIP code entered during payment matches the information registered with the customer's card issuer.
When a confirmed mismatch occurs, the payment is declined, helping businesses reduce potentially fraudulent transactions.
Payments: Easier Billing Information Updates
Customers can now review and update their billing information before submitting a supported credit card payment.
On Website Checkout and the Customer Portal, billing information may be automatically filled using the delivery address. Customers can update it when their billing address is different.
If a payment is declined because of a confirmed ZIP code mismatch, a clear message explains the issue. Customers can correct their billing ZIP code and retry without restarting their order.
For POS Phone Payments, staff receive similar guidance to help customers verify their billing information.
Payments: Where Verification Applies
The new billing ZIP code verification applies to supported credit card payments through:
Website Checkout
Customer Portal
POS Phone Payments
Only confirmed billing ZIP code mismatches trigger the new AVS decline rule. Payments with unavailable verification results continue through existing security checks.
Other payment methods and payments made through physical card readers are not affected.
